care for naturally dyed goods
Naturally dyed pieces require care to ensure their continued vibrance over time. Each piece was pretreated to preserve color. With washes or prolonged exposure to the sun, the colors may fade or change slightly. That is a normal and welcomed evolution of the piece.
Imperfections are part of the process. Expect some variations in color between pieces and know that each is hand dyed with intention and is one of a kind.
To clean, hand wash with pH neutral detergent to protect color. Some examples are Seventh Generation Free & Clear, Woolite, Heritage Park. Most “free and clear” unscented / uncolored detergents work well. I prefer using Synthrapol specifically for naturally dyed products.
Hang or lay flat to dry, especially for silk or wool pieces. For cotton, drying on low heat is fine to prevent shrinking. Remove wrinkles with a warm iron.
Avoid direct sunlight to preserve color overtime.
