Flower Hammering Workshop

Originating in Japan, flower hammering / tatakizome / hapazome is an ancient technique using fresh flowers hammered into natural fibers to transfer their color and pattern. Join Kelly Pierson of Green Eyes at her home in East Boone to explore the garden, harvest fresh flowers, and hammer them into fabric! During this 2.5-hour workshop, participants will learn the basics of natural dyes including fiber types and fiber preparation, explore the garden and learn about easy to grow dye plants, and design your own cotton bandana or tote using the tatakizome / flower hammering technique. Teens and adults welcome to join.

You will come away from this workshop with:

  • An understanding of the basics of natural dyeing, fiber preparation, and easy to grow dye flowers.

  • An experience learning the fun of flower hammering with fresh flowers from Kelly’s garden.

  • An organic cotton bandana or tote with fresh flowers designed by you!

Accessibility information: The workshop will be held fully outdoors with walking over pathways and bumpy ground. We will have seated options available for the hammering portion of class. If additional accommodations are needed, please reach out.

Weather: We will be fully outside, so if the weather is icky, we will contact you about a new date.
